FiveG - the brandclose
FiveG was created by arguably Britain's greatest Olympian, Sir Steve Redgrave, in 2001.
Named after Sir Steve's record-breaking five consecutive Olympic gold medals, FiveG - as it is affectionately known - is committed to being a brand that represents sustainable cotton.
Since 2008, the label has sold its casual menswear range produced from Fairtrade-certified cotton in Debenhams.
FiveG has now teamed up with Cotton made in Africa, an initiative of the Aid by Trade Foundation, to create a sports sock that is manufactured right here in the UK, but made from cotton produced by smallholder farmers in Africa.
Sir Steve, wants the label to champion quality clothing produced from sustainable sources.
Helping people to help themselves through tradeclose
The Aid by Trade Foundation's Cotton made in Africa initiative was established to help cotton farmers help themselves through trade. The initiative, which is currently running in six African countries aims to improve the living conditions for African smallholder farmers by creating an alliance of international textile firms, who purchase and process the sustainably-produced cotton for the world market.
The cotton farmers also profit from the initiative's training and community projects. Around 420,000 smallholder farmers from Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'lvoire, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia are currently participating in the programme.
Last year some 15 million textiles made form African cotton entered the market. It is anticipated that for 2012, the figure will reach around 20 million units.

"It was important to us that we took the opportunity to highlight the quality of the UK production with our latest product, especially as the eyes of the world are on the country this summer."
